1001 Inventions to launch Brazil Schools Programme

World-premier science show uncovering Muslim Civilisation legacy in Brazil

1001 Inventions announces Brazil Schools Programme and a world-premier science show celebrating the scientific and cultural legacy of Muslim Civilisation in Brazil.

Launching in September 2014, the 1001 Inventions Brazil Schools Programme will engage schools across the country with a new range of educational classroom activities and science fairs delivered in partnership with Qatar Museums, the Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture and Brazil's renowned Institute of Butantan.

Over a thousand years ago there was a creative golden age in Muslim Civilisation during which fascinating advancements in science and technology were made. In an area that spread from Spain to China, inspirational men and women of different faiths and cultures built upon the knowledge of ancient civilisations and made discoveries that have had a huge and often underappreciated impact on our world.

1001 Inventions raises awareness of this important period of scientific and cultural innovation demonstrating how societies today, including those of Latin America, have had centuries of interactions with Muslim Civilisation.

The educational materials will also connect discoveries of the past to modern day achievements including the work of Brazil’s Institute of Butantan in biomedical research and Qatar’s influential role in scientific development.

This initiative provides schools in Brazil with a new, first-of-its-kind, live science show and high quality educational materials that enrich the teaching of science, technology and mathematics. The diversity of the content provided by 1001 Inventions interlinks themes of science with art and culture, helping to nurture student creative skills.

The 1001 Inventions Brazil Schools Programme is managed in Brazil by the Institute of Butantan which is based in Sao Paulo.
