Special Events at MiSci to Celebrate 1001 Inventions Exhibition

Detroit, 16 November 2017: “1001 Inventions: Untold Stories from a Golden Age of Innovation” exhibition which launched at the Michigan Science Center (MiSci) last month continue to attract thousands of visitors.

The exhibition which runs in Detroit until 7 January 2018 includes a diverse range of engaging experiences to enthrall visitors and enrich their knowledge about groundbreaking achievements from a golden age of science stretching from Spain to China over a thousand years ago, a period often referred to as the ‘Dark Ages’ in Europe.

Through interactive exhibits, short films, hands-on workshops, science demonstrations and learning resources visitors are introduced to the Golden Age of Muslim Civilization. A creative era where men and women of different languages, faiths and cultures worked together in harmony, building upon knowledge of ancient civilizations, achieving breakthroughs that still influence our world today.

To celebrate the exhibition and engage visitors of all ages, the Michigan Science Center is now open on Wednesday evenings until 8 pm with special theme nights. Themes for Wednesday nights are diverse and include topics such as healthy living, chess, food, Maimonides celebration, the zero effect, storytelling and much more >>>

Exciting programming at the Michigan Science Center this month also includes a virtual field trip to experience the 1001 Inventions exhibition. This virtual 20-minutes inspirational journey, planned for November 21, takes participants through a colorful and creative period of a golden age of civilization. Through the virtual tour students and families will meet inventors, discover how their ancient ideas are still in use today and learn how to create an astrolabe – an ingenious navigational device. Last month, the Michigan House of Representatives declared October 2017 “1001 Inventions Month” in the state. The House Resolution introduced by Rep. Abdullah Hammoud (D-Dearborn) was adopted in conjunction with the Michigan Science Center (MiSci) hosting the international, award-winning exhibition, 1001 Inventions: Untold Stories from a Golden Age of Innovation. Entry to the 1001 Inventions exhibition is free with the purchase of general admission to MiSci thanks to the kind and generous support of community partners and local donors.
