Muscat Festival Announces 1001 Inventions Exhibition

IThe internationalaward-winning global touring show arrives in Muscat as an anchor attraction at Al-Amerat Park

The organising committee of the Muscat Festival 2016 announces that from 21 January to 13 February it will host the award-winning exhibition 1001 Inventions celebrating 1,000 years of scientific and cultural achievements from the Golden Age of Muslim Civilisation, as an anchor attraction at Al-Amerat Park as part of Muscat Festival.

The leading exhibition will be hosted for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman and will be showcasing the ground-breaking scientific, technological and cultural achievements of the Golden Age from the 7th century onwards that stretched from Southern Spain to China.

The organising committee of the Muscat Festival decision to host this exhibition goes in line with the spirit of the Festival in providing entertaining, educational and culturally focussed experiences for its visitors. The 1001 Inventions exhibition highlights a thousand years of contribution from multi-cultural, multi-ethnic men and women that helped create the foundations of our modern world. Visitors to the Festival will be introduced to scholars and scientists who lived during the Golden Age of Muslim Civilisation in a fun and interactive way – people like Ibn Al-Haytham, Fatima Al Fihri, Ahmed Ibn Majid, Abu AlQassem Al Zahrawi.


1001 Inventions exhibitions have achieved resounding success in many cities around the world such as London, New York, Washington DC, Paris, Los Angeles, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Istanbul and other. More than 7 million people have visited 1001 Inventions exhibitions and over 200 million have people engaged in 1001 Inventions campaigns.

This 1001 Inventions exhibition features a diverse range of exhibits to enthrall visitors and enrich their knowledge, including interactive displays, electronic games and models that highlight breakthroughs and discoveries in various discipline including medicine, geography, engineering, marine science, astronomy and education. The exhibition also features live performances that bring to life historic role models from Muslim Civilisation.

In addition to this global blockbuster, 1001 Inventions will also launch at the Muscat Festival in Al-Amerat Park, a new show about 11th century scientist Ibn al-Haytham. This show Ibn al-Haytham: A Journey of Science from Darkness into Light, produced by 1001 Inventions in partnership with UNESCO and the International Year of light (IYL2015), comprises exhibits, interactive games and a new short film starring legendary actor Omar Sharif who takes viewers on journey of discovery of the life of Ibn al-Haytham. International Artist Sami Yusuf made the music composition for the film. This short film has recently had its world premier at the Dubai International Film Festival. The ‘Ibn al-Haytham: A Journey of Science from Darkness into Light’ will be on display at Al-Amirat Park throughout the Festival period starting 14 January.

1001 Inventions Blockbuster Exhibition 

21 January to 13 February. Daily from 4 till 11 pm.

Ibn Al-Haytham Show

14 January to 13 February. Hourly shows 5 till 10 pm.

Both the exhibition and show will be on display at Al-Amerat Park as part of Muscat Festival.
