The Scientific Center of Kuwait announces the February 2015 opening of the award-winning 1001 Inventions Exhibition

Kuwait, 24th November 2014: The Scientific Center of Kuwait and 1001 Inventions announced today their partnership to bring to Kuwait a world renowned award-winning 1001 Inventions Exhibition as part of a national educational campaign, facilitated in Kuwait by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science, to celebrate and raise awareness of the extraordinary and often-forgotten scientific and cultural achievements from the Golden Age of Muslim Civilisation.

The ground-breaking scientific, technological and cultural achievements of this era from the 7th century onwards that stretched from Spain to China, will be introduced to residents and visitors to Kuwait during a 4-week residency of a 1001 Inventions Exhibition and other accompanying family focused activities and schools outreach campaign, starting at the Scientific Center in the first week of February 2015.

Exhibitions produced by 1001 Inventions have already received more than six million visitors at blockbuster residencies in cities around the world breaking visitor number records, aiming to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and medicine and build their capacity towards building a better future for their country.

Students and families in Kuwait will be introduced to scientists and scholars who lived during the Golden Age of Muslim Civilisation and understand their contributions to our modern world in a fun and interactive way – people like Ibn Al Haytham, Ibn Sina, Al-Razi, Fatima AL-Fihri and many more.

1001 Inventions productions highlight the role of men and women of different faiths and cultures that worked together in Muslim Civilisation, building upon the knowledge of ancients civilisations, and helping to make breakthroughs that have left their mark our lives today.

The Kuwait exhibition will feature a diverse range of exhibits, hi-tech games, short feature film, hands-on workshops, books and classroom learning materials and electronic games which highlight breakthroughs and discoveries in various disciplines, most notably engineering, agriculture, medicine, geography, marine science, astronomy and education. The exhibition will also include live science theatre that bring to life historic role models from Muslim Civilisation aiming to serve as inspirations for young people in Kuwait to pursue careers in science and technology. Featured role models include master engineer Al Jazari, inventor of the magnificent time-telling device the ‘elephant clock’; Fatima Al Fihri, the young woman who in the 9th century founded and designed the world’s first modern university; Ibn Al Haytham who in the 11th century laid the foundations for the invention of the camera by discovering how our eyes work.

School teachers and parents from across Kuwait will be invited to introduce the nation’s young people to the inspirational role models featured within the exhibition. The activities within the exhibition are specially designed to help pupils develop the skills and talents, and teachers are encouraged to bring their primary and secondary school children to the exhibition; and to use the teaching products and illustrative materials accompanying the exhibition to enhance the learning process.
