Exhibition from 1001 Inventions creates awareness of animal extinction

Taif, 15 August 2019: 1001 Inventions, in partnership with the Saudi General Entertainment Authority (GEA) launched “Al-Jahiz and the Book of Animals” as an anchor event within the historic festival Souq Okaz organised in Taif, the City of Roses.

The exhibition brings to life one of the oldest books written in Arabic about animals to help inspire curiosity in children and to promote caring for all living things.

Full of high tech virtual reality experiences (provided by DIGICOM UAE) that bring animal life and nature to your doorstep, the highly engaging exhibition is part of a global educational initiative created by 1001 Inventions that comprises of an exhibition, short film, children’s book and educational materials, that together provide a journey of discovery into the animal kingdom and natural world through the eyes of 9th-century explorer Al-Jahiz.

Amr ibn Bahr al-Kinani, widely known by his nickname Al-jahiz due to an eye deformity, was an Arab prose writer and author of works of literature. He developed a love for – and expertise in the Arabic language becoming an avid reader and prolific writer. A unique feature of his oeuvre is that he tailored his writing in such a manner that the general community could understand; interspersing his writing, with anecdotes, humour and witticisms.

With over 1,200 sqm of exhibits, Virtual Reality games, hands on workshops, live shows, fun competitions and film screenings, the exhibition is a highly engaging family experience.

‘1001 Inventions and the Book of Animals’ aims to raise awareness of the modern-day threats to the natural world and prompt urgent action… starting with a commitment to strive to live in harmony with nature. It seeks to enable young people to draw lessons from the past to help safeguard our future.

Families can engage with an array of educational and entertaining activities at the ‘Al-Jahiz and the Book of Animals exhibition’ at Souq Okaz site in Taif until the 31st of August 2019 daily from 5pm until 12am.
